That the Left Front is in power for more than two decades is not a mean achievement. On the one hand Left front Government had to fight the non-cooperative Central Governments and maintain their own unity. It had to fight every inch to maintain its position.

document1.gif (14787 bytes)The ‘documents’ contained in these Volumes give the most authentic and comprehensive information about the role played by the Indian Communists in the struggle against British Colonial exploitation in this sub-continent and also reveal in historical perspective the success achieved by the Communists in organising the working class, peasantry and freedom-loving people of India in the total struggle against the British rule in this ancient country.

The Communists in India carried on their struggle even after India’s independence through ‘transfer of power’ on August 15, 1947. The ‘documents’ contained in the Volumes of this period and of subsequent period will be found most useful by the students of history – who are interested in India and are eager to study the political developments in this country in the post-independence era since 1947.

The Communist movement developed in India with very great momentum in spite of overwhelming influence of the Indian National Congress. In Independent India since 1947, during the most dominating influence of Jawaharlal Nehru’s Government, the Communists gained majority in Kerala in the General Election in 1957 and formed an elected Communist Government in this southern State and successfully continued this Government till it was unconstitutionally removed in 1959 ny Jawaharlal Nehru’s regime at the Centre.

The Communists faced most brutal repression in India since its independence under the tenure of the Governments led by Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi but nothing could stem the tide of Communist movement in India. The Communists won electoral victories in the States of West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura and at present Communist-led Governments are functioning in all these three States.

In the present political situation in India when one-party-rule has become impossible and coalition Government has become the order of the day, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) plays a very significant role and heroically continues the struggle to build Left and Democratic Unity in order to preserve and safeguard secularism and democracy in this country.

The ‘documents’ contained in the Volumes of this series will help to understand and assess the importance of the political developments in India and their implications in national and internationals spheres.

These Volumes were published under the guidance of an Editorial Board headed by Jyoti Basu, Chief Minister of West Bengal and Polit Bureau Member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

The ‘FOREWORD’ of each volume has been written by Harkishan Singh Surjeet, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). And the ‘INTRODUCTORY NOTE’ to each Volume has been written by Jyoti Basu, Chief Editor of the Editorial Board.

The interested buyers will get delivery of all the 25 Volumes at a time.

The price of each Volume is Rs. 1,000/- (in US $ 50 and in Sterling À 30). The despatching cost will be borne by the purchaser.
