From May 19, 1890 when Ho Chi Minh was born to September 3, 1969 when he died, every page of his life is a page full of lessons for all communists, inspiring them on the path, which they have chosen.

Reared in a patriotic family Ho became very much concerned at the sufferings of the people at the hands of the French imperialists. He had found all the past movements very heroic, but all had met with failure. Young Ho went to France and travelled from country to country. He saw clearly everywhere the cruel regime of the imperialists and colonialists and he eventually discovered the truth. The truth is Marxism-Leninism and the working class party. The Great October Russian Revolution had shed this light for him. From then on, he moved forward unerringly and the whole nation followed his steps.

In 1943, the Japanese overthrew the French and took over Indo-China. In June 1944, wholesale terror by the Japanese fascists still raged, but the general situation had already become unfavourable to the fascists. The Vietnam National Liberation Army was formed under the leadership of Ho-Chi Minh. On August 16, 1945, Ho Chi Minh announced the formation of the independent Democratic Republic of Vietnam and on September 2, 1945 Democratic Republic was proclaimed.

British troops entered Vietnam to disarm the Japanese and closely following them the French imperialists came back. An attempt to negotiate a peaceful settlement having failed Ho Chi Minh gave the call for the war of resistance. Came Dien Bien Phu - the historic victory of the Vietnamese people.

The US imperialists had plans to replace the French as the new overlords of Vietnam. The Vietnamese people again had to take up arms. A new phase of heroic fight followed and ultimately the imperialists had to face an ignominious defeat and Vietnam was free.
